Last week Dani and I shared with you all a little bit about where we each call home and this week we wanted to share a couple of places we love in the our cities.
I grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma, a suburb about 15 minutes north of Oklahoma City. It's also where I went to college and where my parents still live so I'm there pretty often. I currently live in OKC just north of downtown and I absolutely love it! I live in one of the many arts districts and I'm walking distance to many of my favorites places.
I'm going to share with you guys a few of my absolute favorite places in OKC.
#1 Elemental Coffee (because, duh, coffee)
OKC has several amazing coffee shops but this one is my favorite. It's located at 8th and Hudson, downtown OKC, and is my happy place. I go there at least once a week (even though I work in a coffee shop). It's the place I go to work on blog posts, listen to podcasts, plan my meals for the week and just relax with friends. If you've never been you really need to give it a try. They make the BEST salted chocolate chip cookies you will ever have in your whole life. No lie. Ask my friend Sarah. They also make the BEST cold brea I've ever had. Again, ask Sarah, she'll tell you! They also make a pretty delicious strawberry peppercorn muffin. Yep, peppercorn. Just try it.
#2 Big Truck Tacos (because, tacos)
Tacos are my favorite food group. Yes, they are a food group. No, you're not going to convince me they're not. Shhhhh, just trust me on this one. Anyway, like I was saying...Big Truck Tacos. My favorite taco place (none of you south-siders are allowed to comment here) in all of OKC! I would eat there every day if I could. I've been there so much in the last two weeks that the employees are starting to remember my ridiculous order. I would be ashamed about that but, well, tacos. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and go get a taco (I recommend the Guardian).
#3 Plenty Mercantile
This store is kind of Anthropologie + West Elm + an antique store + just pure goodness. At least, that's what I think of it. I love going to Plenty to just look around and it is my go-to place for finding gifts. It never disappoints! They also host different workshops and events on their super awesome rooftop. If you've never been, you seriously need to go.
This one isn't a "place," it's more of an area. I really like just walking around downtown. I usually park on 10th and Robinson and then just walk down toward the Myriad Gardens and see what I find. This is how I've found so many cool places to shoot in! It is such a cool experience to just walk and look at things without having any agenda or destination in mind. I highly recommend you take time to do this in whatever city you live in. You will discover things you didn't know were there and see your city in a new light. Just be sure you're smart about it and not out walking alone in the dark or in places that you know aren't super safe!!
I'm going to stop there. One place to get coffee, one place to eat, one place to shop and one "place" to wander. The way I feel about my city drastically changed when I started taking the time to get to know it. I used to think, "ugh, I hate living in Oklahoma, there's nothing to do here!" Now I realize that it wasn't that there's nothing to do, it's just that I wasn't making any effort to discover those things. I still don't participate in a lot of "activities" but knowing places where I can go and feel comfortable has been really nice. All four of the places I mentioned are places I know I can go and just be. I don't have to fight crowds or excessive noise (which is super important to me), I can just go and enjoy myself when I need to get out of my apartment.
What are some of your favorite places in your city? Where do you go when you just need to get out of the house?
